Food consumption has increased rapidly over the last 50 years, resulting in the swift growth of our nation's waistline. Foods that are junk dominate the aisles of the grocery store and are offered daily in schools' lunchrooms, and as fast food, clogs all major intersections.
Consuming junk food regularly, as we do, can lead to weight gain, and, for one out of five Americans obese, it is one of the biggest health risks, yet nobody seems to be alerting us to the issue. The television could be the most important invention in the history of humanity. Imagine the world without it. It's almost impossible to comprehend and, more than that, scary. It's the result when boredom meets enticement and inactivity. While watching their favorite programs, they are attracted by junk food and go to the kitchen. This endless loop has led to an epidemic of overweight children. Instead of getting outdoors and burning calories, kids prefer to be seated and eat. The "couch potato" disorder can be treated, however. Research has shown what anyone with a sense of humor is already aware of: obese children shed pounds when they are permitted to be less in front of the TV (Miller 1999).). The prevalence of obesity among teens is greater than the rate two years ago. A few schools are trying to help their children get off of junk food by taking away soda and candy machines and offering food that is nutritious for the body and not only satisfies your appetite. But this is the only exception and not the norm. Foods with a high-calorie content are still at the top of most schools because of economic reasons. The physical consequences of being overweight are more than the psychological ones. The disease significantly reduces life expectancy as well as your quality of life. The overweight suffers from a higher number of ailments, issues in joints and bones, and the back region, and are more sedentary than those who do not. However, there isn't an urgency to reverse the trend. There isn't a "war on double cheeseburgers," although junk food consumption poses more danger for the daily lives of Americans than terrorists.
